TLI31222 Certificate III in Driving Operations

COURSE OVERVIEW

The (TLI31222) Certificate III in Driving Operations is a nationally recognised qualification available through a traineeship model. This pathway combines on-the-job training with structured learning, allowing participants to earn while they learn, while building practical driving and transport skills directly in the workplace.

This qualification covers an extensive range of elements to ensure drivers can confidently operate a heavy vehicle in all situations and environments — including urban, regional, and long-haul routes. It equips participants with the skills and knowledge required to manage daily driving tasks safely, responsibly, and in compliance with industry standards. 


COURSE CONTENT

Training is tailored to suit workplace needs and unit selection. Core areas include:

  • Safe heavy vehicle operation in diverse conditions
  • Workplace health and safety adherence
  • Load restraint and cargo handling per standards
  • Fatigue management and driver wellbeing
  • Chain of Responsibility (CoR) compliance
  • Customer service and communication in transport

DELIVERY & ASSESSMENT


This qualification is delivered through traineeship pathway combining:

  • On-the-job training – develop skills while working in the industry
  • Online and/or face-to-face training sessions with industry trainers
  • Assessment methods including practical demonstrations, workplace 
  • This flexible delivery ensures learning is practical, relevant, and directly linked to the workplace.
  • Projects, written tasks, and online assessments


DURATION AND LOCATION


  • Duration: Typically 12–24 months, depending on prior experience, unit selection, and workplace arrangements
  • Location: Delivered in the workplace and via supported online/face-to-face training across Australia


PRE-REQUISITES/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS


To enrol in TLI31222 Certificate III in Driving Operations (Traineeship), all applications will undertake an enrolment interview prior to accepting progressing them to the full enrolment participants and must meet the following:


  • Suitability and Support Needs Assessment 
  • Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN): Participants must demonstrate appropriate LLN skills to meet course and workplace requirements (assessment conducted prior to enrolment).
  • Licence Requirements: Must hold (or be in the process of obtaining) the appropriate driver’s licence for the class of heavy vehicle to be used in training (e.g. Medium Rigid, Heavy Rigid, or equivalent).
  • Employment Requirement: Must be employed in the transport or logistics industry under a registered traineeship arrangement.
  • Minimum Age: As per state/territory licensing regulations for heavy vehicle operation.
  • Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN): Participants must demonstrate appropriate LLN skills to meet course and workplace requirements (assessment conducted prior to enrolment).
  •  Workplace Access: Must have access to suitable vehicles and a safe operating environment for practical assessment.


FEES AND CHARGES  

  

Fees for this course are set out in our Schedule of Fees and Charges, provided with the enrolment package and available on our website.

· Eligible trainees may access government funding subsidies (varies by state/territory).

· Employers may also benefit from incentives available for approved traineeship arrangements.

 The qualification is available through Traineeship. Eligibility criteria for subsidised training is available through Skills SA:  https://www.skills.sa.gov.au/subsidised-eligibility 


Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) 

Recognition of prior learning is available and involves assessment of an individual’s prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine competency. RPL shall be reviewed upon request
